The dream For Hera United today, a football club where it is only about women has come a step closer. The directors of professional football clubs agreed this afternoon with a change of rules that allow female clubs to officially participate in professional football.

In December the big clubs already voted unanimously for the new rule, but today all questions and ambiguities about the consequences of that change were discussed again. A specially established working group convinced all directors in a meeting room of the KNVB that clubs do not necessarily have to have a men’s department to participate.

Eight weeks before the license

And that means that Hera United, the intended women’s club of founders Marieke Visser, Barbera Barend and Susan van Geenen, is getting closer. Their goal is still the same: from the 2025/2026 season with a fully -fledged team into the Eredivisie.

“Today is a great day for women’s football in the Netherlands. It is very good that space is made for women’s clubs in professional football,” says Visser. “Now it is up to us to show that we have our affairs in order.”

In the coming eight weeks, the KNVB license committee will be considering whether HERA meets all rules. With the green light, the Amsterdam women’s club then gets access to the Eredivisie. “We have prepared well,” says Visser.
