The Portuguese cyclist Joao Almeida has won the fourth stage of the Tour de Suisse.
The 26-year-old (UAE Emirates-XRG) celebrated his fifth victory this year after 193.2 kilometers from Heiden to Piuro (Valchiavenn). Almeida laid the foundation stone with an attack during a long climb just under 50 kilometers before the finish.
Kämna storms into fifth place
Lennard Kämna finished tenth and jumped to fifth in the overall classification. This continues to lead Romain Grégoire (Groupama-FDJ). Kämna is missing 1:20 minutes on the French.
While Almeida pulled away on the climb and drove out to the top of the Splügen Pass for a little over 40 seconds, Kämna kept in a chase group.
Onley and O’Connor complete the podium
Almeida’s lead began to shrink just under seven kilometers before the finish. Oscar onley (Picnic Postnl) and Ben O’Connor (Jayco Alula) tried to attack again, but could no longer be dangerous and completed the podium.
On Thursday, a 183.8 -kilometer stage from La Punt to Santa Maria in Calanca is waiting for the peloton. In total, the 88th edition of the Tour de Suisse comprises eight stages, the traditional tour ends on Sunday with a mountain time trial in Stockhütte.
