Sam Hagens and Welmoed Sijtsma must immediately take action to turn the tide of falling viewing figures, says TV authority Tina Nijkamp. “They have to sit next to each other, not opposite each other.”

The talk show of Sam Hagens and Welmoed Sijtsma has a different setup than many viewers are used to. There are four benches in the decor: two for the guests and the other two for the presenters. They are right in front of each other. But is that handy? In the meantime, the viewing figures are falling rapidly, sees TV authority Tina Nijkamp.

“Change something!”

Tina states in her podcast Tina’s TV UPDATE Even that their program Good evening the Netherlands is ‘in the danger zone’. “Yesterday it went under 400 thousand viewers for the first time. 367 thousand viewers and also a market share of under 10 percent in the commercial target group 25 to 54 years,” she says.

Then all alarm bells really have to go off, she continues. “Then I would think as a maker: what should we do with this? You have to change something.”

Next to each other

Tina says from the start that those four benches are not a good option and that Sam and Welmoed just have to take a table. And if they don’t want that? “Sam and Welmoed, just sit next to each other if that table is not an option for whatever reason,” is her advice.

“It makes you crazy as a viewer that the guests are looking at each other all the time and then again at Sam and Welmoed. It is one big back and forth and that just doesn’t look good and it feels very restless. Just start with that, but that is just a tip.”
