This summer is 10 years since the Finns started drinking gin.
Mikko Koskinen of Kyrö Distillery and Henna Kainulainen from three friends are pleased with the cocktail they have developed. Eve Paljakka
Little Kyrö Distilleryn Poppoo knew when they nominated their one-year-old Napue Gin & Tonic series ten years ago.
The victory clicked. At the same time, the demand for Napue changed, but also the Finnish cocktail and drink culture. Suddenly everyone wanted to drink gin and cocktails.
Kyrö’s marketing Mikko Koskinen Now tells you to remember the victory, but the next memory is only six months after it.
– It was pretty much. When the profit came at the weekend, the distillery was open and there was a 300 -meter queue. Napue ran out of Alko in three days, Koskinen times the events.
One eager ginifan had driven 300 kilometers in vain when he tried to buy a Napee for the next Alko, which was at the end.
Rosemary and cranberry are a familiar combination of G&T. David Jakob / Kyrö Distillery
It took nine months before Kyrö reached the so -called production and the shelves were full. In addition, the first 200,000 cables were made by hand before the mechanical bottling line was completed.
Finnair staff later said that they had only three Napue bottles each on each flight.
– The mistresses asked to lift the hand if the passenger wanted to catch a nap, and the bottles were drawn among the willing buyers, Koskinen describes.
According to Koskinen, Napue-Gi is still the best-selling article at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.
– There were strange things like the fact that Joensuu ended up rosemary, Koskinen laughs.
The reason for the rosemary shortage was, of course, the Signature-cocktail and its decorations cranberry and rosemary.
Now another cocktail has been developed for the classic G&T. By the way, it has the same ingredients, but in addition to Gin and Tonic, a glass ball is spun on the glass. The ice cream of the Napue Float summer drink brings out Gin in a new way. Cocktail is designed with three friends ice cream houses.
– We decided to bring something new. The ice cream keeps the drink cold for a long time, Koskinen advises.
Napue Float cocktails are on sale in the center of Helsinki in the Kyrö Sauna Bar. And in August at Kyröfest. The alternatives are Gini and Tonic with either vanilla ice cream or raspberry-white chocolate ice cream. Eve Paljakka
Three friends Business Manager and Innovation Lead Henna Kainulainen notes that if the basic g& T feels too strong, this is a good option.
In addition to Kyrö, there is a 10th anniversary place in another distillery. Almost the same pace with Kyrö Distillery, his own gin was launched in the market Helsinki Distilling. And just over ten years ago, we tasted the tentacle of Helsinki Distillery.
-I mixed our first tentacle from Helsinki Dry Gin and acid-like pink blood grapefruit juice just June 12th. In 2015, says Helsinki Distilling Master Blender Kilpinen.

Kilpinen describes the tentacle as fruity, naturally colorful and was packed in a bright glass bottle.
This gin drink also attracted greater interest than expected. The test batch, which was thought to last over the summer, was sold out on the first weekend.
Kilpinen knew he had created something special that became Finland’s first premium tentacle.
Helsinki Distillery was the first to start an era of colorful tentacles. Today, many manufacturers have much more color on the tentacle shelves of the shops than just gray. The color has become a competitive asset.
This year, both the Ostrobothnian and Helsinki distillery have brought their own cans G&T and cocktails to the grocery stores.
