FC St. Pauli said goodbye to three of its replacement goalkeepers after the past season. Two of them are preserved in a different role in the neighborhood: Sascha Burchert (35) and Sören Ahlers (27) end their professional carvers, Burchert takes on a newly created function in goalkeeper training, Ahlers becomes an assistant coach for the keepers in the U23 of the Hamburgers.
Especially in the Burchert case, a career ends that would have desired a less quiet end. Due to the injury, St. Pauli was almost unable to fall back on the reservists this season. Before that, Burchert was at least in the cup games of the brown-whites, which was four encounters last season. It was only in the quarter -finals that against Fortuna Düsseldorf after a penalty shootout.
However, the native Berlin gained awareness, especially with Greuther Fürth, where he was in goal 124 times in the 2nd Bundesliga and 14 times in the upper house. Also at training club Hertha BSC, where Burchert became B-Junior champion, he collected seven Bundesliga games early in his career. 2011 and 2013 in Berlin as well as in 2021 in Fürth and 2024 in Hamburg, Burchert belonged four times to a promotion squad four times-but with FCSP without second division operations. Now Burchert should develop a training concept on the Elbe in coordination with the NLZ, the transition area and the professional area and accompany the young keepers in their development.

Ahlers already ends with 27 and becomes a goalkeeper coach
As a new goalkeeper coach for the reserve St. Paulis, Ahlers will be available from the coming season. Born in Oldenburg, he came from the second team of FC Schalke 04 to St. Pauli in 2021, but was also only there in competitive number three in the regional league team between the posts. Despite his only 27 years, Ahlers ends his player career. He too has had to deal with injury problems in the past few months.
