Basel (dpa-AfX)-The Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche stops the administration of gene therapy Elevidys for the treatment of Duchenne Muskeldystrophy (DMD) in non-capable patients. The step takes place after two deaths due to acute liver failure.
The benefit-risk ratio of Elevidys in non-capable DMD patients was re-evaluated after a clinical review, said Roche on Sunday. The company is deeply affected by the death of the two young men and is working on reducing risks associated with Elevidys treatment.
In the clinical area, the administration of the therapy to non-capable patients is now being paused immediately, in the commercial area it will be completely hired, said Roche. The administration of elevidys to walk-in DMD patients of all ages is not affected: the benefit-risk ratio remains positive for this.
