No departure: Iran striker misses the start of the club World Cup

The Iranian international Mehdi Taremi misses the start of the club World Cup. He cannot leave his home country.

Inter Milan has to do without Mehdi Taremi at the first game of the Club World Championship. Because of the tense situation in his home country, the attacker cannot travel to the USA in time. As the Italian club confirmed to the AFP news agency, the 32-year-old is currently in Iran.

Taremi had recently played a World Cup qualification game against North Korea (3-0) with the Iranian national team. Afterwards, an departure towards the club World Cup was not possible. The reason for this is the escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel.

Israel had started a major attack on military destinations in Iran on Friday. The Iranian airspace was closed until further notice, said the official news agency IRNA.

In the first game of the club world championship, Inter will meet CF Monterrey from Mexico in Los Angeles on Tuesday. For the Italians it is the first game after the lost Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain (0: 5).
