With one year late, Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen switched to FC Bayern. At his official performance in Orlando, where the German record champions prepared for the club World Cup, the international made no secret of his ambitions.
“Of course I would like to take responsibility,” announced Jonathan Tah, who was able to start FC Bayern before June 30th, at his presentation in the team hotel.
However, he does not like the word defense chief that you have to work out this status first, the experienced central defender argued: “I am someone who wants to work hard. Then you will see if I can fill out this role.”
FCB sports director Max Eberl and sports director Christoph Freund clearly showed him in the conversations, the role he could take on in the team in the future, Tah reported.
FC Bayern had promoted Tah intensively as early as 2024, but Bayer Leverkusen did not give his master heroes at the time.

Christoph Freund praised the newcomer not only as a “absolute desired player”, but also as a “leading player” and “leader”. Tah was a central component in Leverkusen’s success team of the past two years.
The 37-time international wants to build on this on Säbener Straße: “I came here to measure myself. And of course I know the role from Leverkusen. But as I said: I have to work hard.”
Even if he had three days off with the other national players of FC Bayern after the Nations League and only traveled to the USA on Thursday, Tah feels for his lightning debut on Sunday (from 6:00 p.m. in the live ticker sport.de) prepared in the first group game of the club World Cup against Auckland City.
“I am ready. I would like to settle up as soon as possible here,” emphasized the 29-year-old, who ultimately cost Bayern a small transfer: 800,000 euros should flow to Leverkusen for his early start.
