On Wednesday (June 11th) Brian Wilson, co -founder and creative head of the legendary band The Beach Boys, died at the age of 82.
In 1961 he founded the band together with two brothers, a cousin and a school friend and thus created one of the most influential formations of music history.
The music of the Beach Boys was sampled and reinterpreted by countless musicians: Snoop Dogg to Björk and Gorillaz to Beyoncé. Now the music world is saying goodbye and recognizes Wilson’s life’s work.

Above all, the Beach Boys themselves commemorate their co-founder in an Instagram post: “Brian Wilson was not only the heart of the beach Boys-he was the soul of our sound. The melodies he composed, and the emotions he put in every note have changed the music forever.”
The musicians emphasize how much his songwriting shaped America at the time. “We will continue to honor the timeless music that we have created together and the joy that he has prepared millions of people over decades.”
Elton John also spoke up. In his post, he remembers a moment from 2003 when Wilson sang his song “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” at a tribute concert. “It was an extraordinary moment for me. I played on his solo albums, he sang the Union on my album and even appeared for my AIDS Foundation. […] He set the standards for songwriting and shaped the music forever. A real giant. “
Ringo rigid and Bob Dylan also condolences
Ringo Starr kept himself briefly, but found apt words: “God bless Brian Wilson. Peace and love for his whole family.” He posted a photo together. Bob Dylan commented on X: “Today I heard the sad news about Brian and thought of all the years in which I listened to his music and admired his genius. Quiet in peace, dear Brian.”
Sean Ono Lennon, son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, also praised Wilson on X as one of his greatest musical inspiration. “I feel very happy that I was able to meet him and spend time with him. He was always very friendly and generous. He was our American Mozart – a unique genius from another world.”
Other musicians such as Mick Fleetwood, Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones and Micky Dolenz from the Monkees and many more also commented on Brian Wilson’s death.
