The actor Harris Yulin died at the age of 87. As his family and manager confirmed to “Deadline”, the American actor died of cardiac arrest in New York on Tuesday, June 10th.
Yulin leaves a comprehensive cinematic legacy. He had one of his best -known roles in Brian de Palma’s gangster classic “Scarface” in 1983, where he played the corrupt police officer Mel Bernstein – alongside Al Pacino as Tony Montana.
Numerous roles in film and television
Yulin started his acting career on the theater stage. In 1963 he made his debut in “Next Time I’ll Sing to You” in New York, followed by his 1971 film debut in “Doc”. In the following decades he took over more than 100 roles in cinema and TV productions.
In “Ghostbusters II” (1989) he embodied judge Stephen Wexler. In recent years he has been known to the younger audience as Buddy Dieker in the Netflix success series “Ozark”. In the 1970s, Yulin led a much-noticed relationship with actress Faye Dunaway (“Bonnie and Clyde”). In 1975 he married the actress Gwen Welles, with whom he remained married until her death in 1993. In 2005 he received a second marriage to actress Kristen Lowman, who now survives him.
