Train travelers will again have to deal with the consequences of a strike at NS on Friday. Rail union VVMC, the largest trade union at the Spoor,, together with FNV and CNV, calls on the staff in the north and south of the Netherlands to put down on Friday 13 June.
The promotions start at 4 am and last until 3:59 am the next day. They apply to all NS employees, including office staff, driving staff and employees on the platforms.
The trade unions take action due to stalled collective agreement negotiations. After nine rounds, according to the unions, NS refuses to take serious steps towards better working conditions. The working conditions are also an important point of care: employees complain about high work pressure, irregular services and increasing aggression on the track. According to the unions, the regulation for heavy professions is in urgent need of revision.
Wim Eilert, union administrator of VVMC, says: “We are forced to take action again. NS still does not make any serious attempt to grant our requirements for a fair wage and better working conditions. We ask travelers to understand understanding and call on the NS to come up with a serious and honest proposal.”
Whether the strike is completely flattening the train traffic is not yet certain. Previous strikes on 6 and 10 June had large consequences, even though it was regional actions. The Dutch Railways has not yet responded to the latest strike call.
