Various attacks in the final phase gave Spaniard Ivan Romeo victory at the 3rd stage at the Critérium du Dauphiné and the yellow jersey.

The driver from the Movistar team secured the stage victory on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) on the hilly 207.2 kilometers from Briude to Charantonay and thus took the Italian Jonathan Milan the overall leader.

Romeo in the yellow jersey, Lipowitz fourth

The second was 14 seconds behind Harold Tejada from XDS Astana, the Frenchman Louis Barré (Intermarché Wanty) finished third, Florian Lipowitz from Bora-Hansgrohe was fourth. In the overall ranking, the 21-year-old Romeo now leads ahead of Barré (17 seconds), the Colombian Tejada (18) and Lipowitz (24), fifth is Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck, 29 seconds).

For Lipowitz, it is now 42 seconds on Topfavorit Tadej Pogacar (Slovenia/Uae Emirates-XRG), which reached the finish line with the main field and is overall. However, he doesn’t look at the big ones like Pogacar, “They are at a different level anyway”said Lipowitz right after entering the finish: “It’s nice to have a distance from you, we have to see how things are going in the mountains. I focus on the top 10 and look forward to the upcoming stages.”

Romeo successfully attacks

After a good 35 kilometers, a 13-member group had formed. A smaller group had settled around 10 kilometers before the finish, from which Lipowitz in particular repeatedly attacked, but could never really break away. The Romeo, who was also aggressive, was more lucky with his attempts and was alone five kilometers before the finish.

Barré, Lipowitz and Tejada tried again somewhat half -heartedly to catch up to the Spaniard, but “only” were able to leave the rest of the outliers behind and so Romeo brought victory over the line. In the sprint between the three pursuers, Tejada had the upper hand just ahead of his colleagues from France and Germany. The main field only rolled to the finish after 1:08 minutes.

On Wednesday, the top stars are in the spotlight during the individual time trial over 17.4 kilometers from Charmes-sur-Rhone to Saint-Péray. The difficult tour ends on Sunday on the plateau du Mont-Cenis is almost the dress rehearsal for the Tour de France (July 5th to 27th).
