The born Amsterdammer was convicted in the Netherlands for cocaine trade and for stabbing his cousin. He received 6 and 1.5 years in prison respectively.
Promes has never served those penalties. Since his departure at Ajax in 2021, the attacker has played football in Russia and Dubai. The Netherlands has no extradition treaty with both countries.
The football player appealed against both cases, which have since been merged. He wants to be physically present at that appeal, but only if he is not arrested as soon as he comes to the Netherlands. He made that request yesterday with RTL Boulevard known.
In the meantime, the Public Prosecution Service is still working on the extradition of Promes, which is now in Dubai, but may not leave that country.
