Since last week in Los Angeles, thousands have been demonstrating against the immigration raids of the US Federal Agency ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Among the demonstrators, Finnea’s O’Connell, the musician and brother of Billie Eilish, was also known as Finnea.
Finneas wrote on Sunday, June 8th in a story on Instagram that he was “sprayed with tear gas almost immediately” during the “very peaceful” protest in the city center. The situation was poured when President Donald Trump sent the national guard to the city and thus triggered nationwide tensions.
Finneas: “You heat that on”
“Fuck Ice,” wrote Finneas in the story before adding: “Almost immediately sprayed with tear gas in the very peaceful protest in the city center – they heat that.” Finneas uses its range of the platform in general to clearly stand by immigrant: inside. He divides contributions, texts and videos every day to draw attention to the reality of people without papers in Los Angeles. From the protests he shared a now viral video in which a policeman fired a rubber floor on the Australian reporter Lauren Tomasi.
Finneas, who also founded the band The Favors with the singer Ashe, only announced her first album The Dream, which is scheduled to appear in September 2025 last week. The first single “The Little Mess Mess You Made” has already been published. Previously, Finneas released his solo albums (2021) and for Cryin ‘Out Loud (2023).
Trump uses National Guard to suppress protests
The demonstrations were triggered by a number of ICE raids in workplaces where several people were arrested. The situation escalated when David Huerta, President of the California union, was arrested during a demonstration on Friday and later taken to the hospital. ICE accused him of disability of a federal measure.
On Sunday, Donald Trump said that he would use up to 2,000 national guards in Los Angeles to suppress the protests. Governor Gavin Newsom sharply criticized the measure and, according to “CBS News”, described it as “illegal and immoral”. He announced that the Federal Government was sued because the national guard was posted without his consent. The protests also expanded to other cities, including San Francisco, where 60 people were arrested on Sunday, according to “NPR” and at least three police officers were injured.
