Strike transverse journey to Bruce Springsteen concert: ‘This costs us bins with money’
It is quiet on Tuesday morning at Amersfoort station. No rows for the gates, no hub on the platforms, only occasionally a group of travelers who hurry towards the RRreis train, one of the few options that still drives today.
Between the lost travelers are Mr. and Mrs. Vorster from Soest. They are visibly embarrassed. “We knew that there was a strike, but we did not realize that the international train to Berlin would not run,” says Mrs. Vorster.
The couple was very pleased with a Bruce Springsteen concert, tomorrow night in the German capital. “Tickets, hotel, everything arranged. Two nights booked. If we only go tomorrow, we will only stay one night. We don’t think that is worth it. But this costs us a lot of money.”
They are now considering taking the car for a ride of more than 600 kilometers. In the hope that they will not be stuck on the way in the traffic jam. “We have not heard from the Dutch Railways. No mail, no report. Nothing at all. Otherwise we would have been in the car this morning at 5 am.”
