“Very hard months behind me”
Olympic champion Tamberi back after the time of suffering

Gianmarco Tamberi has had to deal with many challenges for the past few months. Now the Olympic champion is back – and addresses emotional words to the fans.
Hochpringer Gianmarco Tamberi is known for his show at competitions. Finally, however, the fans of the Italian had to do without them. The Olympic champion of Tokyo 2021 already had health problems at the games in Paris last year and therefore did not make the title defense. He also reported kidney colic and that he spat blood.
Even when he announced with his wife in February that the couple was getting offspring, he wrote about his wife: “With a simple sentence you managed to let me forget all the darkness.” Tamberi no longer played competitions – until now. On Instagram, the 33-year-old announced his comeback for the Diamond League in Rome on Saturday evening.
Tamberi wrote about a photo of himself: “Back in the shop.” On the snapshot, he is relaxed and in a good mood at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome how he goes up a staircase to the stands. He wears a wide-cut, beige outfit with loose trousers, T-shirt and open jacket as well as white sneakers. Sunglasses and wristwatch complete his look. The grandstands behind him are largely empty, on the lawn in the background construction work.
The high jumper explained: “I can hardly wait … very hard months are behind me and now it means start again. Now I need your support more than ever. I am here to take all the energy that you can only give me and capture the next few months up to the World Cup in Tokyo.”
The World Athletics Championship will take place in Tokyo in Japan from September 13th to September 21st. In addition to the German athletics stars around the long jump Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo and Sprint-Ace Gina Lückenkemper, Tamberi also wants to attack to defend his title. He became world champion in Budapest 2023.
He finally wrote to his fans: “It’s almost strange to say, but it starts again. After 9 very long months again in the race !!!! What a wonderful feeling.”
