Football club Dia from Teteringen and the adjacent Mixed Hockey Club received undesirable visitors in January. A burglar turned both clubhouses completely upset and destroyed windows, doors and cash registers. This Friday the perpetrator was in front of the court in Breda and it became clear who is behind these burglaries.
And that was the 44-year-old Petros O. from Breda. Dressed in a training suit, he was in front of the three judges. His profile is quickly outlined: a lot of drug use, no permanent place of residence and a lot of money needed to buy those drugs.
And so Petros roamed a lot on the street, lurking on a chance to earn something. On Friday, eight offenses were discussed, because Petros did not only visit the sports clubs. He rode a stolen mountain bike of around 10,000 euros and also committed burglaries in basement boxes of flats and broke a car open.
The damage that this frequent offender made was many times greater than the yield. Petros did not know if there was anything to get, but just went to look and destroyed doors and windows. He found a key at a flat in the Antwerpstraat in Breda and went to see if it fitted on a basement box. That was not the case and so he forced several doors and took tools with him.
Long waiting lists
And so it always went last winter. Petros used the yields of his burglaries to buy drugs. Because that is the common thread in his life, it turned out. Petros would be admitted to get rid of his addictions at the beginning of last year, but due to long waiting lists he got out of the view of the care authorities. And so he remained active on the street.
In the courtroom, the images of the burglary at football club Dia in Teteringen were shown. Petros did not recognize himself, but the police did: Petros is the man who beats the front door window with a hammer and destroys much more inside. Several doors had to believe it, jackets were searched, the cash register destroyed. The damage was around 8000 euros, while the final loot was a box of Flügel and some energy drink.
But it can’t continue with Petros, was the conclusion of all those present in court. If he still wants to use GHB at the age of 65 or he wants to get rid of it, the chairman asked. Well, Petros wants to get rid of that, he said. But he can’t do that himself.
That is why the public prosecutor demanded in addition to a imprisonment of 30 months, of which 15 conditional, especially many special conditions. Petros must then be admitted for six months and then supervised living. He will constantly need care and treatment until the moment he can re -organize his life and have a good daytime activities.
Petros’s lawyer largely agreed. She only asked to moderate the prison sentence, because the special conditions are already ‘not tender’.
The decision in this case is on June 20.
