Almost five months after the controversial handball in the EM quarter-finals, Cucurella had admitted that he had expected a penalty whistle in the game.
“At that moment yes. I thought that was, shit on it,” the defender told the Spanish newspaper “Marca” at the time.
He understands the controversy in Germany, says Cucurella. “If it had been against us, I would also have protested and said it would be a penalty. But it is football,” said the 26-year-old, who is undecided in the scene: “He clearly hits me, you can’t deny it. But I have it in a very natural attitude, I can’t cut it off either.”
