On Thursday evening, HSV Hamburg will play for the last time this season in front of its own fans. For four players it is the farewell to the club.
An era ends at the Handball Sport Association Hamburg (HSVH): Eigenwäch’s Leif Tissier plays his last home game for the Bundesliga tenth on Thursday. Throwing off against HSG Wetzlar in the Alsterdorf sports hall is at 7 p.m.
“The last home game will be something very special for me,” said Tissier before the game. He expects friends and family in the hall: “It will be sad, but also nice – a worthy setting for saying goodbye.”
After ten years at the HSVH, the 25-year-old joins the league competitor and northern rival TSV Hannover-Burgdorf for the new season. His trainer Christian Prokop had already greeted Leif Tissier with warm words last December: “Leif shaped the Hamburg handball players in many years and developed under Torsten Jansen into a strong and intelligent leader,” he said. “Leif will make us stronger and more unbalanced and help us to continue this successful path.”
Leif Tissier celebrated his debut in the HSVH jersey in the 3rd division. So far, the playmaker made it to 241 competitive games and 791 goals. Due to his achievements, he already played into the field of vision of the national team. Only Dominik Axmann and Niklas Weller play for the Hamburgers even longer.
In addition, the HSVH says goodbye to Wetzlar defensive player Azat Valiulin (since 2021 in the club), back room player Zoran Ilić (since 2023) and young professionals Alexander Hartwig (since 2018).
The HSVH won three of the last five games and is certainly in 10th place in the table (33:31 points). For the away team, too, the penultimate matchday is all about the honor: HSG Wetzlar has already relegated as 14th (19:45 points).
