In his hunt for his 25th Grandslam title, Djokovic now meets Jannik Sinner. He beat Aleksandr Bublik earlier in the day.

Djokovic and Zverev had only met each other on the Australian Open this year. The Serbian had to give up injured in the semi -final after the first set. Their only two meetings on Gravel date from 2017 and 2019, where both players won once .zverev started strong and took the first set with one break. Three -time tournament winner Djokovic put a little extra and easily grabbed the second and third set.

In the fourth set ‘Nole’ soon had a break again. For a moment Zverev seemed to break back, but a great point of Djokovic prevented this.

Eventually the Serbian served – after some missing match points – at 5-4: Game, Set and the Match. His 50th (!) Semi -final on a grand slam.

Jannik Sinner goes on to semi -final

Sinner has therefore qualified for the semi -final of Roland Garros for the second year in a row. The number 1 in the world easily won 6-1 7-5 6-0 against Bublik, the global number 62.

Sinner had not yet given any set at Roland Garros in his first four games. In the first set against Bublik, that did not seem to change quickly. The triple Grandslam winner quickly ran out to a 5-0 lead before the Kazaky returned. The Italian then won the set on his third set point.

Response Sinner afterwards

Bublik got better in the match in the second set. He kept pace up to 5-5, but after a double error on Breakpoint he handed in his storage. Sinner then doubled his lead in sets with a love game on his own storage. The Italian then left Bublik without a chance in the third set and used his first match point after an hour and 50 minutes.

“I played against Bublik a few times and you never know what is happening with him,” Sinner said afterwards on the track. “I tried to stay focused and play as solidly as possible, because he can have ‘ups and downs’. I am happy with how I got into the semi -finals. Semi -finals on grand slam tournaments are special.”
