The world of work changes and thus also the requirements and expectations of the employees. An examination by OWL Labs shows what you really have to do.
As part of the study, 2,000 full -time employees in Germany were interviewed in July 2024. Of these, 62 percent of the respondents were male and 38 percent female. Almost half of the respondents were 28 to 43 years old. The evaluation of the survey shows that employees are willing to accept financial losses if the following points are given.
Flexibility and work-life balance
More and more workers prefer flexibility in the work -related framework. Around 75 percent of the respondents stated that the flexible choice of work is an important factor for one’s own satisfaction. A total of 28 percent would even be willing to make financial compromises. It even shows that for employees on office days (around 29 euros a day) there are more costs than for working from home (approximately 9 euros a day). Against this background, 16 percent of the respondents even expect a salary increase if they are no longer allowed to work remote or hybrid. Just 11 percent of the respondents would not bother if they losing the privileges of hybrid work.
In addition, working hours also play an important role: 38 percent of those surveyed consider flexible working time design as the most attractive benefit. For a 4-day week, even 31 percent would be accepted.
The relevance of these aspects is particularly evident when you look at the reasons for changing jobs. The report shows that 31 percent of employees actively strive for a job change – this corresponds to around every third employee. Although 54 percent of them indicate better remuneration as the cause, but the remaining 46 percent call the work-life balance as the main reason.
Leadership
In addition to flexibility and work-life balance, the manager also plays a major role. A supporting manager is considered almost as important by 83 percent of employees as the remuneration (91 percent) and wage equality (86 percent). The value of an empathetic and supportive tour is particularly emphasized in large companies.
