Odermatt wobbles only briefly
Odermatt, already the winner of the overall World Cup, was the first to set the target time under perfect external conditions. The Swiss wobbled a bit in the middle part, but the competition bit their teeth in rows with his 1:04.96 minutes.
Only Lucas Braathen came dangerously close to him. The Norwegian drove without any visible mistakes, but was still 0.2 seconds behind the leader at the finish.
Good run by Schmid – Kristoffersen misses
Schmid, who had taken it easy in the team competition on Friday, also got off to a promising start with starting number ten and in the meantime even swung to the top. In the last third, however, the athlete from SC Fischen lost speed and fell back a few places on the already slightly worn track.
It was bitter for Henrik Kristoffersen. Odermatt’s toughest competitor this season was just ahead at the second split, but shortly afterwards slipped away on the inside ski and was eliminated. On the other hand, Junior World Champion Alexander Steen Olsen, as the last starter, made everyone sit up and take notice. The Norwegian was rewarded for his risky ride and finished ahead of Schmid with a time of 1:05.73 minutes.
Decisions about the balls already made
The last giant slalom of this World Cup season is all about the decision in the daily ranking. Odermatt had already secured the large crystal globe for victory in the overall World Cup and the small crystal globe for first place in the discipline rankings in Kranjska Gora last weekend.
