C‘They were once romantic escapes, scapigliati weddings in Las Vegasthe wedding rites with the chosen witnesses, at the last, on the street. Heartbeat, kisses and rivers of tears. And nobody to take even a photo.

Improvisation in love, as an expression of freedom, has characterized the years of the sexual revolution and even a few later decades. Until the obsession with the formal representation of feelings has not overwhelmed us and forced all into the plasticized frame of a selfie.

For love stories it was like falling a few centuries backin search of all those rituals, which seemed to be defuncted, but who suddenly pass that are passable of a more or less staging. Well yes, I am referring to the declarations on their knees with the ring case in hand, to celibacy/bachelorette parties which, due to the alcoholic degree, should not be immortalized and let alone the subject of a direct. Finally with the marriage riteswhere the scenography and even the choreography (of balancer, dancers, mangiafuoco) are the masters, removing every spontaneity of that special day.

Love and fiction?

The latest gimmick? Get married during a theatrical performance. It will seem strange to you, but it is really possible to do it atArena Stage of Washingtonuntil June 15, during the show We are gatheredwho tells a love story between two men. Here each replica will culminate in what is called “Love Takes Center Stage”“An immersive experience” (sic) and “inclusive”, in which more couples will join the actors for a real wedding ceremony or for the renewal of their votes.

The kneeling declaration is back in fashion (Photo Getty Images).

How is it possible? One of the actors, Craig Wallace, was ordained a priest: he will celebrate the rite. Reception will follow with lots of cake, champagne and dances. And I wonder how we got to want to want one of the most true moments of our life to do the background to something fake.

It is as if the protagonist of the Truman Showinstead of gaining the door and leaving the scene, if he closed it behind, happy to perpetuate a life of (reassuring?) Finance.
