A number of people with a permanent residential permit live at Vakantiepark de Horn in Dirkshorn, but Ilse Feller does not belong. Although she has had her house for about twenty years, she has been away for a few years and was not eligible for that permit. The municipality said in 2021 that there had been enough time To find other living space.

Living without a permit was tolerated until recently, but last year the municipality announced that it wanted to stop. The plan is that from January 1, 2026 it will be actively maintained.

Ilse Vecht for years for exemption

Yet that permit seems to be coming. The cabinet wants to live in a holiday home for ten years legally. Ilse is delighted. She has been fighting for an exemption for years. “I am happy with it if that scheme also applies to me. Then I no longer have to fight the government.”

Ilse previously received compulsive letters on the mat, enforcers at the door and, despite everything, continued to try to get an exemption from the municipality for years. “A permit makes it all a lot easier.”

Yet she has also been left about it. “In the beginning I slept badly for nights, but not anymore. It is my house and my ground. A roof above your head is a human right. And I don’t let my right to live,” she says combative.
