After a three -week tour break, Billie Eilish came back on Thursday evening (May 29th) with a huge show in Cologne. The Lanxess Arena was filled to the last seat.
Hours before the start of the show, endless snakes were formed around the area in Deutz. The demand was so huge that black market prices climbed to up to 1000 euros. As part of her current world tour, the 23-year-old played the first of two sold-out concerts in Cologne and proved why she is the epitome of modern pop culture for many. Dressed in a wide grain shirt, basketball shorts and sneakers, Eilish sprinted restlessly across the huge stage.
Billie Eilish in Cologne: Huge stage
In 2018 she was still on stage in the Cologne Jungle Club. At the center of the Arena scale placed in the middle, Billie Eilish remained just as close by waving to the audience and also accommodating a few private anecdotes. There was support from the British singer-songwriter Tom Odell, whose appearance with the song “Another Love” was already a first highlight for many.
At the beginning of her show, when Billie suddenly appeared in the video disk, the circular level reached the decibel border. On the other hand, it was quiet for “When the Party’s Over”: Billie sat on stage in the tailor seat to make her voice live live. 18,000 people suddenly became silent.
Other highlights: the emotional “The Greatest”, the club banger remix by Charli XCXS “Guess” and the intensive “L’Amour de Ma vie”. With “Blue” there were even gifts for the crowd.
No Finnea? No problem!
For the first time without brother and producer Fineas, Billie was still confident at the piano, grabbed the guitar and made her third studio album shine “Hit Me Hard and Soft”. “Bad Guy” came comparatively early – the focus was clearly on new songs and musical diversity.
The 100-minute show ended with “Birds of a Feather”, Spotify’s most streamed track 2024. To say goodbye a few words that could have come from the big sister: “I will always protect you. I love you.” Words that get stuck – just like this evening. Anyone who has not got tickets: On Friday evening (May 30th), part two will follow in Cologne.
