Niclas Füllkrug had to wait for his comeback in the national team for a long time. Now he is back and spoke before the Portugal duel about private things.
Niclas Füllkrug switched from Borussia Dortmund to West Ham United in the summer of last year. However, the German international there has only been 20 missions there. The striker was injured for a long time and was only tortured with an Achilla tendon irritation, afterwards with thigh problems. In the meantime, the 32-year-old is back on the lawn-and will also contest the Final Four in the Nations League with the DFB team.
Before the game against Portugal next Wednesday (from 9 p.m. in the T-Online Liveticker), Füllkrug spoke at a press conference about his difficult season. When asked by a reporter whether he could get something positive for the time, he said: “I always try to talk a little bit. After every valley there is a high again. Accordingly, it would have to go uphill now. I’m looking forward to it, I am working for.”
However, despite the injury, he also experienced great experiences: “Many challenges, but many moments for which it was already worth it. Especially with the family. We have had nice moments at the Thames where we live and that’s nice.”
The offensive star of the DFB team even went into detail. “My daughter learns English, which is not entirely wrong. So we also have many advantages, but no advantage comes without disadvantage and vice versa,” he said. Nevertheless, after such a long period of absence, he felt comfortable again in the national team.
“Little has changed, I feel totally integrated,” said Füllkrug, adding: “The team is still very harmonious, as before. I believe that the work of before now is wearing the fruits.”
Füllkrug was also asked about his DFB teammate Florian Wirtz, who is said to have chosen Liverpool against Bavaria and according to media reports. The West Ham-professional said: “If it should be Liverpool, I am sure that he would bring this team forward.”
