It was the Flemish Minister for Climate Melissa Depraetere (Vooruit) who in ‘The Wetstraat report’ launched the idea of reducing the maximum speed on Flemish motorways to 100 kilometers per hour. Coalition partners N-VA and CD&V immediately shot the proposal. However, with 100 km/h you lose little to no time compared to 120 km/h, but the risks for road safety are considerably lower.
