On Monday (May 26th) a flaring sign with the inscription “Die in Karl-Marx-Stadt” appeared in Chemnitz-without sender or any kind of explanation. At the beginning of the week, the lettering was still on a crane over the town hall in Chemnitz. A countdown that runs on Wednesday evening (May 28th) at 9:15 p.m. is also attached under the inscription. Are there a power club behind it? It seems so …
Countdown from Kraftklub – but what for?
The head of the town hall, Ralf Schulze, initially only revealed to “Radio Chemnitz”: “An artist collective creates art here.” However, it is now known that the power club is behind the lettering. The countdown is also on your website and in her Instagram story, the Chemnitz band posted a video of it.
In the meantime, the installation is no longer hanging over the town hall, but in front of the Schauspielhaus in Chemnitz. According to “Blick.de”, the building was occupied by activists a few weeks ago: inside, after a planned renovation was paused due to a lack of financial resources.
Is “Dying in Karl-Marx-Stadt” an album title?
What exactly the countdown is going on is not yet known. Some fans speculate on the band’s appearance in front of the Schauspielhaus, others even hope for a new album.
On Instagram, power club has recently been increasingly active. In a post on May 27th you can see the musicians In the studio, how to perform a previously unpublished song. Not only the fans, but also the band members commented: “Is the album coming this year?” This quotes from one of your own songs. Frontmann Felix Kummer replies to “your girls”: “We don’t believe / because in the studio are forty -four degrees”. Fittingly, the contribution also says: “How much degree does it have?”
The current Kraftklub album Kargo was released in 2022
But a spontaneous guerrilla concert would also match the band’s previous actions with K. For the promo of their last recorded record Kargo, they played a show together with Casper and Tokio Hotel on the Reeperbahn. The gig was announced only a few hours earlier.
Kargo appeared in 2022 as a fourth studio album from Kraftklub and marked a comeback after a long band break. In the meantime, the members used the time to also implement solo projects. Felix Kummer published his Kiox debut plate in 2019.
