An ex-employee of an Austrian Bundesliga club is accused of sexual abuse. The suspect has already stood.
A former employee of the Austrian Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC (WAC) was arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse of children. As a spokesman for the Klagenfurt public prosecutor said, some young footballers of the association in Wolfsberg in the state of Carinthia are among the alleged victims.
So far, a total of 20 affected children between the ages of 12 and 15 have been known, said a spokesman for the German Press Agency. The 22-year-old suspect had presumably sexually misused two of them. In other cases, there is suspicion that he made children available to make homemade photo and video recordings.
The 22-year-old was interrogated after his arrest and stood the deeds “fully”, the spokesman said. The children are almost exclusively boys, but it is also a girl from the family’s family environment.
The association, which had won the Austrian ÖFB Cup for the first time in early May, emphasized in an online position that it had not previously been informed about the allegations. The WAC had already released the 22-year-old “in connection with stolen utensils” a few months ago. According to the club, he was not part of the supervisor of the young team.
“Our thoughts primarily apply to the affected children, young people and their families. We express our deepest sympathy and our unrestricted support,” said the WAC.
