Doesn’t want to repeat Hoffmann

HSV legend Felix Magath has reacted with incomprehension and sometimes biting criticism that the advisory board has not been approved as the club’s presidential candidate. That is “a political decision,” said Magath on the NDR program “Sportclub”. “In the course of my long career, I was accused of a lot. But what the advisory board gave me as an argument: Nobody has come up with the idea.”
The 71-year-old was already a player and coach of the HSV and wanted to be president on June 21 at the general meeting of the mother club Hamburger SV EV. However, Magath refused to set up the candidates for the review and final list of the candidates. One of the reasons for this decision: Magath is more interested in a supervisory board and the influence on the outsourced professional football department than the responsibility for the more than 120,000 members. The former international decidedly rejects this accusation.
“Of course I was asked whether I would quickly switch to the board (the professional footballer) like Mr. Hoffmann (ex-club boss Bernd Hoffmann, editor’s note) at the time. And I said: I promise you that I will not do that,” said Magath. “At that time I already got the chess department at HSV computer so that they can train better.” He is now looking “dear handball than football because more happens during handball. I ran a marathon. I did a fighter for everyone. I don’t know why I am in duty.
Magath pointed out that after his coaching period in Hamburg, three times German champions with Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg pointed out. “Nobody who sits somewhere in one advice can imagine what it means to play different roles in paid football for over 50 years,” he said. “Even when the HSV released me in 1997, I was still successful from time to time, I got three German championships and two cup successes. I am so grateful that I have experienced so much in football that I want to give something back now. If the HSV says we have better, I have no problem with it. You just have to present things right.”
HSV members Schaöten Honorary Council in the Magath case
In order to make Magath’s candidacy for the presidential office possible, several HSV members have now hired the honorary council of the association. However, the chances of tipping the Advisory Board decision again are low. And Magath also said as a conclusion: “I live with it. I can live with it. I have made so many decisions in my life. I have no problem with accepting a decision without being able to say: I can understand it.”
