According to the Bayern bosses, Florian Wirtz will not move to Munich, but to Liverpool. National coach Julian Nagelsmann would be both clubs right.

“I think you can see this from different sides,” said Nagelsmann at the “Sky” microphone in front of the DFB Cup final in Berlin when he was addressed to Florian Wirtz possible switch to FC Liverpool.

The national coach explained: “But every player has to rate it for himself where he wants to go and what is the right step. Liverpool is – if it becomes Liverpool, we don’t even know – a good step for him because he can play in his position there. It is a great environment, a great club.” At the same time, the 37-year-old made it clear: “Bavaria would certainly not have been wrong.”

A move to the Munich team would have been “good” because Florian Wirtz could “have got used to his offensive colleague Jamal Musiala even better. But: “The two, Jamal and Flo, are also two players who can find themselves. Even if they don’t play at the same club. In the end, it is important that he plays and the development continues as it is up to date. If he feels that he is best lifted at Liverpool, then he should do it.”

Nagelsmann with Wirtz in exchange

At the same time, Nagelsmann emphasized that he was in exchange with Wirtz in the past few weeks. “We exchanged a few messages,” said the national coach, who wanted to give the 22-year-old “to the best of our knowledge and certain” tips.

Ultimately, however, he could not lose the decision to the player. “I have not ruled out a club and did not advise him to go to which one club should go,” said Nagelsmann.

Bavaria Munich’s club president Herbert Hainer had explained on the sidelines of a fan event according to “Abendzeitung” that Florian Wirtz “is probably tending to Liverpool”. He was informed about this by sports director Max Eberl. At Bayer Leverkusen, the German international actually has a contract until 2027.
