Lando Norris leads the traditional race in Monaco on Sunday. For a team, qualifying became a disaster.
Lando Norris goes from the first place to start to the Formula 1 race in Monaco. The 25-year-old Brit drove the fastest round on the narrow city course in 1: 09.954 minutes and landed in the McLaren in a gripping showdown 0.109 seconds ahead of the previous year’s winner and local hero Charles Leclerc in Ferrari. Third place went to the World Cup leading Oscar Piatri in the second McLaren.
Norris has good prospects to win in Monaco for the first time in Monaco on Sunday (3 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online). It is difficult to overtake on the narrow asphalt band in the principality, the starting position at the very front is already a big step to the next Grand Prix triumph. However, a new rule is used for the first time: two pit stops are mandatory for all drivers. This means that the voltage is to be increased by more tactical possibilities.
Nico Hülkenberg in the clean qualified for the 13th place and thus has the points length at least within reach. The time hunt for Mercedes became a real failure. Kimi Antonelli slipped into the gang in Q1, on George Russell’s car, the drive was striking in Q2, in the end there were only places 14 (Russell) and 15 (Antonelli) for the duo.
Before eighth of 24 World Cup runs, Piatri leads in the overall World Cup ranking with a 13-point lead over Norris. World champion Max Verstappen is third with 22 points behind, in qualifying it was only enough.
