Willem II beat FC Dordrecht with 3-2 and that was the first victory of 2025. The tricolores therefore finished in sixteenth place in the Eredivisie. That was just high enough not to relegate directly, but therefore meant after competition football.
Because the first game against Dordrecht was lost 2-1, it had to be extended. When there was no change in the score, it turned out to be penalties. The home team shot all five; Dordrecht hit the post once and was therefore eliminated.
Doodeman and Schouten
With Willem II, the North Hollanders Nick Doodeman and Erik Schouten play, among others. The latter had to be changed tonight, because he was not fit enough to continue playing. Doodeman also went to the side prematurely.
In the previous rounds of the play-offs, Telstar dealt with ADO Den Haag and FC Den Bosch. Sad enough, both games ended in a minor. In The Hague the game was stopped a few minutes before time, because fireworks and toilet rolls were thrown on the field.
Yesterday it went wrong in Velsen-Zuid after the last whistle when supporters stormed the field to celebrate the win. A number of them then, according to the police, challenged the fans of FC Den Bosch, after which it came to a massive fight on the field.
Field destination
Also in Tilburg the spectators came to the field afterwards. This did not lead to disturbances. Captain Jesse Bosch did understand the joy outburst. “Everyone is very happy. Of course we know that we still have to play a final.”
Bosch believes that Willem II is obliged to disable Telstar. “This was a step that we had to take tonight and hopefully we will also take the next step. We will do everything to stay in the Eredivisie.”
