The playful promotion was offered last year by the parish Sint Victor at an auction in the West-Frisian village, with which money is raised for local associations. No fewer than 50 villagers showed interest, which together resulted in an amount of approximately 2,500 euros. Father Bert Glorie (62), who is blind from birth, also took on the challenge.

“This is not on my bucket list,” Glorie jokes when he is asked why he is participating today. “I want to experience this sometimes. I have been working here for ten years, but I don’t really know how high the church tower is. I like that I now get an idea of the height in this way.”

He has already been reassured by his sister, who was also born blind. “She has already done it and said it is easy to do, so I trust that.” He doesn’t know heights. “That’s between your ears.”
