A 33-year-old Ukrainian man from Deventer has to serve a three-month prison sentence in August of last year in Meppel. He hit a broken jaw, nose and hip in the shelter, where the man lived at the time.

The reason was not about anything, the public prosecutor said. There was annoyance about noise. The consequences were great. The victim ended up in the hospital and lived on liquid food for six weeks.

The officer demanded a six -month prison sentence, three of which are conditional. The suspect was put out of the shelter. He was no longer allowed to come there.

He did that in October, until three times. Even the intervention of a judge, who emphatically pointed out the ban, did not help. The suspect did not appear during the court case in Assen, his lawyer did. He presented the judge that ignoring the local ban was not intended. He proposed a community service.

The judge did not agree with that. She finds the violence that has been committed too intense for community service. According to her, a partly conditional punishment had little use and left it at three months.
