“I’m going to miss their playfulness,” says Bears carer Bart Courtmans (36) about the Nanuq cubs and Malenky who leaves the sunwood on Monday. The young bears, born from a mother bear evacuated from Ukraine, must legally leave and get a new home in a British nature park. During a special farewell day, a drawn family was allowed to stay in to hide goodies for the bears. “We were 40 centimeters away. Then those cubs don’t look that small anymore,” testifies Lisa Willems (35).
