The French Open will start in Paris in a few days. Local hero Caroline Garcia will also be there. But it will probably be Roland Garros last time.
Shortly before the French Open begins, Caroline Garcia announced the end of her tennis career. The former number four in the world and WTA finals winner from 2022 announced her decision on the platform X. “It’s time for something else. My body and my personal goals need that,” said the 31-year-old French woman.
Garcia announced that her start in Roland Garros this year will be her last at the same time. It is your 14th participation in a row at the traditional clay court tournament in Paris. “A few more tournaments” want to contest them – but Roland Garros marks the emotional finale on a big stage.
One of her greatest successes is the victory at the WTA finals 2022. In doubles, she triumphed twice at the French Open: 2016 and again in 2022 alongside compatriot Kristina Mladenovic. A Grand Slam final in singles, however, was denied her. She currently takes 145th place in the world rankings.
