At the World Masters Games in Taiwan, one participant is in the spotlight – not only because of his age.

At the age of 105, Sawang Janpram from Thailand caused a sensation at the World Masters Games in Taiwan. The athlete won four gold medals – probably also because he was the only participant in his age group.

In the 100-meter run, Janpram achieved a time of 38.55 seconds. He also competed in the shot put, discus throw and javelin throw without competition. Since he successfully completed all competitions, he was awarded gold in every discipline.

“I am proud, he was honored for our family,” said his 73 -year -old daughter Siripan, who even competes with the Masters Games. It was also she who had brought her father to sport. Janpram only started training at the age of 90 – out of concern to become bedridden in old age, as was the case with friends.

The 105-year-old is active three to four times a week. He prefers to run on the beach – together with his daughter. “Sometimes I go, sometimes I run,” he told the AFP news agency.

Janpram left open whether he will start again at the next World Masters Games 2027 in Japan. “It depends on my health,” he said.

A total of around 25,950 athletes from 107 countries take part in the World Masters Games in Taiwan – about twice as many as at the Olympic Games last year in Paris. The games are aimed at athletes from the age of 30.
