Miley Cyrus originally planned to stage her upcoming record of something beautiful with live performances in extraordinary places-such as in forests or at the pyramids. But a conversation with drama icon Harrison Ford made her to give up this idea again.
Cyrus, whose ninth studio album will be released on Friday, May 30th, on Columbia, had already published the singles “Prelude”, “End of the World”, “More to Lose” and the title track. The new work is followed by its album Endless Summer Vacation, which was released in 2023.
Cyrus to Ford: “I have a PDF on my cell phone”
In an interview with the DJ Zane Lowe in his podcast on Apple Music 1, Miley Cyrus told Harrison Ford from her original thoughts. After asking her what she was working on, she showed him her plans according to “NME”: “I have known Harrison Ford for a while because I grew up with Disney and we were traveling in the same circles,” she said. “And he asked what I was doing right now. I said, ‘Well, I have an idea. Actually, I’ve already done something. I have a PDF on my cell phone that I could show you.’
In the file she presented the concept called “Somewhere Beautiful”-a series of live performances in special places such as in forests or in pyramids. But Ford reacted skeptically: “He replied: ‘You really want to go into a forest and do what exactly? Do you want to take a whole team with you? Then he says: ‘That sounds expensive’ ‘(via “nme”).
Fast plan change: “People, we no longer appear in the forest”
Back on the set, Cyrus pulled consequences: “And I went back to the trailer and said: ‘People, we no longer appear in the forest. Harrison Ford made a lot of meaning.'” The objections of the “Indiana Jones” actor finally led her to change her plans. Instead of a global natural show case, the concert film of the same name was “something Beautiful” of the same name, which will be released on the publication day of the album.
The film as a new form of the tour
“That’s why I wanted to make this film – the film is my way of going on tour,” she said to Lowe. “That’s why I bring him to the cinema because it is something that you can see at night after night. And you can discover something new, you have the feeling of being part of a performance – but I don’t have to spend the same way.”
In the past, Cyrus has spoken openly about the challenges of tour life and finds this film a new form of musical expression that, according to “NME”, corresponds better to its current life situation. In 2023, both Miley Cyrus and Harrison Ford were awarded the D23 Expo as “Disney Legends”. Cyrus was the youngest person who has ever given this honor.
Collaborations on the new album
The upcoming album Something Beautiful contains collaborations with supermodel Naomi Campbell and Brittany Howard, the front woman of the band Alabama Shakes. The artist had previously indicated that the work was influenced stylistically and thematically by Pink Floyds The Wall.
