Stuttgart city councils are deleted to the cup final

Six Stuttgart city councilors should be representatives of their city to the DFB Cup final. But the trip to taxpayer costs was prohibited three days beforehand.
Several members of the Stuttgart municipal council had already looked forward to the DFB Cup final between VfB Stuttgart and Arminia Bielefeld. But this will not happen – at least not officially. Six city councilors who wanted to travel to Berlin at the invitation of the mayor had to change their plans again. The regional council (RP) prohibited the trip at the expense of taxpayers.
According to the authority, participation is not justified because the council members do not have a sufficiently important representative function “. The possibility of representation is already fulfilled by the mayor. Other official representatives of the city are not necessary for this.
The regional council also expressed criticism of dealing with the coveted final tickets. It rated the process as “inadmissible advantage under office law” because the cards on the free market are no longer available.
The city itself sees the situation differently. The process was legally checked – without complaints, as a spokesman explained. Mayor Frank Nopper (CDU) also acted in the tradition of his predecessors. Nevertheless, he would withdraw the invitations after the decision of the RP.
The RP had no objection to the mayor himself. In view of the importance of the final and the participation of VfB Stuttgart, the invitation of the German Football Association (DFB) was justifiable, it said.
According to the city, the trip should originally be financed from funds, which have not yet been spent at the 2024 European Championship.
Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) is also expected in Berlin – also at the invitation of the DFB. According to media reports, CDU parliamentary group leader Manuel Hagel travels privately as a fan.
