Sveindís Jónsdóttir is drawn to the USA. After her farewell from Wolfsburg, she will work with the coach of the previous permanent rival in the future.

For the coming season, Sveindís Jónsdóttir will join the US Club Angel City FC. The 23-year-old offensive player moves from Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg to Los Angeles and signed a contract until 2027, as the association from the US Profiliga NWSL announced.

Jónsdóttir is not the only European reinforcement for Angel City: Alexander Straus, currently still a coach of FC Bayern, takes over the sporting management of the team at the new season. Both know each other from the Bundesliga, but now start a new chapter in California independently.

The Icelander justified her change with the sporting ambitions of the club: “I want to be part of something great that changes women’s football, and that’s why I chose Angel City,” said Jónsdóttir. “I want to win titles and I know that this is also the goal of Angel City.”

Jónsdóttir had already said goodbye to VfL Wolfsburg two weeks earlier. Since her change in early 2021, she has had a total of 92 competitive games for the Lower Saxony club, in which she scored 23 goals. With Wolfsburg, she won the German championship in 2022 and three times the DFB Cup.
