The basketball lions Braunschweig had to accept the 1-1 1: 1 in the quarter-final series of the BBL play-offs. The Lower Saxony lost on Wednesday evening at the Würzburg Baskets with 90:94 (47:49).
The Braunschweiger deservedly earned the second success. At the start, they had won 92:79 in their own hall. In Würzburg, the team of coach Jesús Ramírez showed a great morale and even made up for a ten-point deficit in the meantime. The lions seemed to be able to turn the game. But they could not defend the short -term lead in the fourth quarter.
It was particularly important: In addition to Braunschweig’s Ramírez, who had recently been recognized as a BBL coach of the year, and the best German young player Sananda Fru was also on the pitch: Würzburg’s Jhivvan Jackson was honored with the trophy before the game and was later to become a decisive man.
Game three takes place again in Braunschweig: off we start on Sunday at 3 p.m. The team that first won three games (“Best of Five”) is in the semi -finals.
Löwen first half asked as a hunter
Braunschweig’s Chip Flanigan had opened the play-off evening with a basket. However, the only guided tour of the guests should remain for a long time. Würzburg not only equalized quickly, but also quickly pulled it out: the threesome from Davion Mintz meant 18:10 for the home side (5th). But the lions could not be discouraged and continuously caught up. Arnas Velicka scored 20:22 three minutes later.

And the main round round now stayed tuned. The second quarter then went to the Lower Saxony with 26:25, which convinced as a team. Eight players had already met at half -time – but Velicka was the most successful thrower of the lion with eight points. For comparison: Würzburg’s Zachary Seljaas had twice as many at that time.
Ten-point deficit caught up and yet lost
But the turning point was not successful in the third quarter. On the contrary, Bazoumana Koné, himself under contract three times in Braunschweig, expanded the lead of the Lower Franconia after 25 minutes with three points to seven points (62:55). Hannes Steinbach even moved to (65: 55/27.). However, the lions seemed to stare the ten points behind. 26 seconds before the end of the game section, Ferdinand shortened Zylka again to 65:67.
Würzburg met again before the last break, but the Lower Saxony were able to build on their run in the last section. It was then Velicka who brought his colors back into the lead with a basket for the first time and after a foul also used the chance of the extra point from the free -wing line (73: 71/33.).
Driven by MVP Jackson, who sank a threesome in the basket, the home side only reported back a minute later (78:75). And with that, the high -class final phase was heralded, in which the three fell in rows. The advantages were near Würzburg. Even if Ramirez tried several times to counteract time, the Lower Franconia had the better end.
