Deutsche Bahn allows itself a joke over the “village club” duel before the Bundesliga relegation. The counterattack is not long in coming.

In the upcoming Bundesliga relegation, the 1. FC Heidenheim meets SV Elversberg-two clubs that are not exactly one of the big names of German football, but rather in the category: village clubs. But even small clubs can make headlines. Deutsche Bahn took the opportunity to cause a stir with a humorous post on Instagram.

On its Instagram account, the railway released the image of a small red train in an idyllic landscape. In addition, she commented on a wink: “Our special train for the relegation games between Heidenheim and Elversberg.” The hidden note: A small train is sufficient for the manageable number of fans of the two village clubs. Elversberg only has 7,500 inhabitants, Heidenheim at least 50,000.

The 1. FC Heidenheim did not leave this template unused and countered charmingly on his social channels: “Little fun: we recommend traveling all fans by bus or car, after all, you certainly want to be there on time for the kick -off.”

In addition to the entertaining swipes, however, the question arises how fans will actually travel to Heidenheim on Thursday (8.30 p.m.) for the first leg from Elversberg. The route of around 340 kilometers could be less fun than the exchange on Instagram suggests. The rail connection is not the best and takes over five hours with several changes and actually a necessary bus ride at the beginning.

Despite all the jokes, the sporting situation is serious: after a defeat against Bremen, the 1. FC Heidenheim is faced with a difficult task in the relegation. Now the club hopes to be able to secure the whereabouts in the league against Elversberg. After the relegation first leg on Thursday (8:30 p.m.) in Heidenheim, the second leg will take place four days later on Monday (8.30 p.m.) in Elversberg.
