The De Slinge elderly complex in Assen will receive special residents. There will also be 22 clients of Vanboeijen between the 154 elderly people from Interzorg. The relocation of the older mentally disabled people is a first step in a closer collaboration between the elderly organization Interzorg and Vanboeijen, which takes care of the mentally disabled at 72 locations.
The relocation of the Vanboeijen clients must be done next summer. Yesterday, both care organizations signed an agreement.
According to Interzorg director Elly van der Woude, who once worked at Vanboeijen, it was’ a dream ‘to once get both residents’ groups under one roof. “Mentally limited or physically limited, it doesn’t matter. If you talk about working neighborhood -oriented, why would you not let these groups live together.” Van der Woude calls it ‘an enrichment’ for care complex De Slinge.
Van der Woude does not immediately see the arrival of the intellectually limited residents between the large group of elderly people as an extra heavy burden for the staff, with partly also employees of Vanboeijen. “It is only getting more fun, I think. We can learn a lot from each other. In elderly care, we are mainly on the care part, on the nurse part, and far too little guidance. That is our challenge. And in the care sector of the mentally handicapped, they are much stronger in the guidance, more, as it were, with their hands on their backs. They can show how you do that.”
Vanboeijen director Johan Dusseljee calls moving his 22 clients to the De Slinge elderly complex ‘a very exciting adventure’. “But as a healthcare institution to be well prepared for your future, you have to want to take adventures. Housing is one thing. Our clients of course are also getting older and the healthcare more complex. With the shortage of staff you can work together better.”
The disabled institution will also scale up in the number of small -scale residential locations. The relocation of the 22 clients to the Slinge with 176 care apartments also fits in with this. Vanboeijen is spread over more than seventy small locations, especially in Drenthe, with more than 1600 employees. According to a housing plan, the institution wants to return to fifty large -scale living places. “We think it is wise to join forces with Interzorg, especially considering everything that comes to us in the future, especially if you look at staff shortage in healthcare.”
Both drivers believe that ‘Eendracht gives more strength’. Interzorg and Vanboeijen call the move from 22 residents to the De Slinge ‘a first step’. For the future, both healthcare institutions will look at which areas they can work together more and better. For example, Interzorg also does the laundry for Vanboeijen in its large facility center in Assen-Noord.
“We will certainly explore what else can be done together. But first we have to organize everything around this move. That is quite a job. When it is ready, we will see further,” Dusseljee van Vanboeijen concludes.
On the Slinge, Interzorg opened the first wing at the beginning of this year with 88 apartments for residents of the Slingeborgh. They moved to it in February, from the outdated complex next to it. Now the old building has been largely demolished, and the construction of the second wing with another 88 apartments is starting for the construction trade. Next year after the summer everything must be ready. Residents of the Anholt nursing home are therefore moving to the Slinge.
