The former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has publicly commented on the allegations against him in a new interview for the first time since his arrest in 2017. In a conversation with the conservative US presenter Candace Owens, which will soon be completely broadcast on her program “Club Candace”, Weinstein said that he was wrongly convicted of rape and other sexual offenses. In a published section of the entertainment, the 72-year-old also goes into three actors who had publicly accused him of: Gwyneth Paltrow, Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan.
His supporters would be silent
What can be seen in the interview excerpt: Weinstein, which is switched on in the video from prison and appears in a suit, talks about a telephone connection to Owens, which is located in the studio. In the one -minute and 20 -second excerpt, which was published according to a report by “TMZ”, he claims: “I have not committed these crimes. I swear from God, the people who are now watching and in front of my family.”
He adds that many of his supporters would be silent out of fear of being “canceled”: “People are afraid of commenting because they are then canceled. It has become dangerous to have a different opinion,” said Weinstein according to “TMZ”.
In the further course of the clip, Weinstein comments directly on Gwyneth Paltrow. She had accused him of sexual harassment during collaboration on several films. Weinstein denies all physical attacks, but admits: “I have never touched them. But I definitely gave her advances.” He also suggests that he was relevant for the actress’s career.
Criticism of Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan
Ashley Judd’s statements that she was sexually harassed by Weinstein, he described as “ridiculous”. Judd is one of the first women who had publicly accused the producer and thus made a significant contribution to the creation of the #Metoo movement.
He also criticized Rose McGowan, who had accused Weinstein of sexually abusing her. According to the “TMZ”, he accuses her of having gotten her history despite an earlier extrajudicial agreement of over $ 100,000.
New process in New York – prison sentence remains
Weinstein is currently on trial again. In April 2024, his conviction for rape in New York was canceled due to the defects under procedural law. Now the process is rolled up again. Regardless of this, Weinstein was convicted in a separate procedure in Los Angeles for rape and sexual assault in a separate procedure. He is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence in which he feels “like an animal” according to his own statement and already sued the prison.
The complete interview with Candace Owens is to be released on Tuesday. Observers expect further controversial statements on his side.
Weinstein, together with his brother Bob Weinstein founder of the film production and rental company Miramax, was once one of the most powerful managers and producers in the US film industry. From 2017, numerous women will accuse of rape and sexual assault against him-a trigger of the #Metoo movement. His current detention is based on comparable offenses in this process, for which he was condemned in Los Angeles.
