With three victories, the German team started in ice hockey World Cup – now there was the third bankruptcy in a row. Anxiety opponent Czech Republic was again too strong, now on Tuesday (May 20, 2025, 8:20 p.m. in the live ticker at Sportschau.de) a final to move into the quarter -finals – in Denmark and against Denmark.
After the 0: 5 (0: 1, 0: 2, 0: 2) in Herning against the world champion, the Deb team is now tied with the fourth-placed Danes in fifth place in Group B. Both teams have nine points each-only the top four reach the ko round, so a victory against the co-host of the tournament has to be made.

The fact that the team of Harold Kreis loses against the Czechs has a tradition: only in three of the past 41 duels left Germany as the winner, the last success was 18 years ago. However, despite the clear result, this series did not seem impossible. The team led by NHL star Tim Stützle even had significantly more of the game, developed a variety of top -class opportunities – but had zero punch.
Kahun and supporters only hit the post
In the first third, the Czechs were still superior, had 8: 3 goal shots on their side. But Goalie Andreas Niederbeger held outstanding, only had to let David Pastrňák (6th minute) happen. Shortly before the end of the third, Dominik Kahun had the equalization on the trowel, but after Pass from Wojciech Stachowiak he spooned the disc from the best position with the backhand to the post.
Even in the second round, the picture did not change. Germany played proper, committed ice hockey, put pressure on it, but simply couldn’t avoid Dan Vladar in the Czech goal. The closest was in the 25th minute to compensate, after a magnificent solo run by covering the World Cup favorite, he also failed on the right post.
Double strike through Sedlák and Flek
In the middle of the second third, for three minutes of strength and concentration in the previously strong defensive network. Niederberger parried twice outstanding in the 27th minute before Lukáš Sedlák was also allowed to fire the third shot – he then hit in the left corner. Shortly thereafter, the DEB team then ran into a break that Jakub Flek finished ice cold after cross pass by Daniel Voženílek.
After the 0: 3, Marcel Noebels struggled with Magenta during the break before the final third: “We do not use our possibilities, that is the difference. Of course this is also a quality of the Czechs, but now we start outnumbered in the last section – we have to use that.”
Seider is difficult to overcome
The Germans had a power playing situation at the beginning of the third third, but they quickly nuisled all hopes themselves. It was not even a minute when a stick error on the offensive destroyed a promising attack. The Czechs actually didn’t want to go counterattack, especially since Moritz Seider ran into his own third with control over the disc.
But the just freshly prepared ice cream was still wet, Seider suddenly lost control of the abrupt braking puck in the backward movement and himself – he fell and tore his goalkeeper Niederberger. Jakub Lauko hadn’t actually seen this double breakdown, but when both Germans were unable to maneuver on his back, he couldn’t help but take the window and push it into the net.
Wagner madness ten minutes before the end
After that, the moral of the DEB team seemed at the end for a short time, but Lower Geman defused one chance of the Czechs after the other and prevented such a debacle. But after five minutes of self -pity, a jerk went through the team again and she took an attempt again for consumer results.
But what was the core problem this afternoon showed Fabio Wagner as an example in the 51st minute. Shortly before, Vladar had stopped Leo Pföderl, then Wagner was completely blank in the slot, received the perfect pass from Stützle – but the 100 % left the Munich. The gate was almost free, but Wagner somehow still shot Vladar and could not believe the madness himself: he looked completely sturdy at the hall corner, but probably no explanation should have been found.
Flek makes double pack perfect
While the Germans have not achieved a striker goal at five against five since the victory against Norway, the Czechs showed their effectiveness shortly before the end: Flek scored the 5-0 final score with his second goal.
