The PSV Eindhoven has crowned a famous catch -up in the Dutch honorary division with the winning of the 26th championship.
The team of ex-Bundesliga coach Peter Bosz won 3: 1 (1-0) on 34 and last matchday at Sparta Rotterdam and thus kept record champion Ajax Amsterdam at a distance. For the Ajax footballers, the 2-0 (1-0) was worthless at the end of Twente Enschede.
Ajax coach Farioli explains resignation
A few weeks ago, Ajax looked like the safe master, but in just four rounds the traditional club played a lead of nine points. The 2-2 at FC Groningen was the low point on the penultimate matchday when Ajax only conceded the equalization in the ninth minute of stoppage time and thus had Eindhoven passed by.
Ajax coach Francesco Farioli explained his resignation the day after the lost championship. “Management and I pursue the same goals for the future of Ajax, but we have different ideas and time frames about how we should work and act to achieve these goals”, said the 36 -year -old Italian.
Alex Kroes, the technical director of Ajax, was “incredibly disappointed” that Farioli left the club just one year after the signing of his three-year contract: “Francesco and his staff were a great help for us. It was an intensive season with many unforgettable moments, and we have achieved our goal: the qualification for the next Champions League season.” An already “difficult transfer window” in summer is now “even more challenging”
In Rotterdam, the three ex-Bundesliga professionals Ivan Perisic (27th minute), Luuk de Jong (58.) and Malik Tillman (84th) made the victory and thus also the title for PSV perfect. For Eindhoven it is the return to the Dutch football throne after a year break. Ajax, who won through goals from ex-Liverpool star Jordan Henderson (28th) and Wout Weghorst (90th), must continue to wait for the first title since 2022.
