Werenoi, one of the most successful rappers in France, died surprisingly at the age of 31. As several French media reported, he died on May 17th in a Paris hospital. The cause of death has not yet been known to the public.
“Rest in peace my brother”
The news spread after his producer Babs announced via X: “Rest in peace my brother, I love you !!!”. Later he added: “Thank you to everyone for the support. The days we are currently going through are the most terrible days of our lives. But your news helps us hold out. Thank you very much.”
The rapper’s label confirmed the message on May 18 in a post on Instagram. “With great grief we experienced from death Werenois. Our thoughts are with your family, loved ones, his team and everyone who knew him,” says the post. The musician was currently on tour for his new album. The appearance of Friday, May 16, had to be canceled.
Within four years Werenoi became one of the most successful rappers
Werenoi started his career in 2021 and quickly made a name for himself in the French rap scene with his song “Guadalajara”. His albums Carré, Pyramid and Diamond Noir sold more than that of any other artist.
The joint song “Piano” with rapper Gims was only published in early May. On Instagram, he announced his grief about the death of his rap colleague. “Death is a wave without warning. It bears those that were thought to be at the harbor. We did not know very well. We knew ourselves very well, my brother, but your presence was like a gentle breeze. We will belong to Allah and we will return to the family …” In addition to Gim’s collaborated Werenoi with many other great French artists: Damso, Damso and Aya, Damso, Damso, and Aya. Nakamura.
He let his music speak for himself
Jérémy Bana Owana, as the musician is called, grew up near Paris in Montreuil. His childhood was, as he himself explained, shaped by modesty, reluctance and hard work, the values of his Cameroonian family.
Not much is known about the private life of the rapper. Apart from the publication of his music, he was more back to the media. In 2024 he explained in a rare interview to the French newspaper “Le Parisien”: “I prefer to keep my private life for me.” In his texts he already tells enough about himself and his life.
