Most recently, speculation for BVB for the club World Cup was speculated by returning from Mats Hummels. Now sports director Sebastian Kehl comments on the topic.

Borussia Dortmund is currently not planning to return Mats Hummels for the upcoming club World Cup in the USA. Sports director Sebastian Kehl made it clear on Sunday in the “Doppelpass” of Sport1.

The team had played heavily in the past few weeks, emphasized Kehl – and it is precisely this squad that the trust of the sporting management is currently enjoying. However, Kehl did not want to completely rule out a comeback from the 2014 world champion. “Mats was a super important player for Borussia Dortmund. We know that we can theoretically rely on Mats,” he said.

Hummels ends his career at the end of the current season, could still be contracted for the tournament between June 15 and 13 July. In addition to Dortmund, FC Bayern is also represented at the club World Cup as a Bundesliga club.

Kehl also carefully commented on the Jadon Sancho personnel. Sancho “a very big past in this club” and last season has put its value for the team to prove – a new obligation is currently not a central topic.

With a view to the transfer planning in summer, Kehl announced targeted reinforcements. At the same time, he made it clear that the BVB also had to give players on the appropriate opportunity. Offensive player Jamie Bynoe-Gitten is a potential seller, who could achieve a high transfer fee due to his potential.

Coach Niko Kovač is to be rewarded with a long -term contract for his successful season sprint. “Why should we go out of something else? We are planning the season with him. The moment will come when you put together,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl: “We want to go with Niko in the long term. That is the goal. We need stability on the coaching position.”

The 53 -year -old Kovač, as the successor to Nuri Şahin, led to the Champions League as the successor to Nuri Şahin after his takeover in February, despite ten points behind the last matchday. The coach’s contract will run until the end of the coming season.
