But if you would have thought that the black and yellow would now make nails with your heads and give Kovac a long-term contract, you are wrong.
Niko Kovac actually did what many observers have not thought possible and has moved into the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund. BVB was only in midfield on spring, after the dismissal of Nuri Sahin, the big goal seemed difficult to reach. But Kovac, who was fetched for the European mission and was equipped with a contract until summer 2026, turned the black and yellow on the left and was rewarded on the last match day.
“What Niko has done is one of the biggest coaching performance of the BVB,” enthused sports managing director Lars Ricken after the 3-0 win over Holstein Kiel in an interview with “Sky” late Saturday afternoon. “This is extraordinary,” BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke praised the Dortmund catch-up and Kovac.
So is the contract that will expire in the coming year with the coaching coach, which is also coveted elsewhere? On a corresponding question from “Bild”, sports director Sebastian Kehl, according to the boulevard leaf, said: “We are at the moment, everything else is not an issue for now.”
Kovac has “shown in the past few months that you can work together on things and that you can rely on him,” Kehl pushed.
According to the report, however, the fact that the BVB will not yet extend with Kovac is not that one would not be convinced of the Croatian, but on the narrow schedule of the coming weeks. The club World Cup in the USA is already in the United States in one month (June 14th to July 13), and there should also be major changes to the squad that must be managed.
BVB: Kovac extension only later in the year
Means: The Kovac extension should not be tackled until autumn. This is therefore not a problem for both sides. Both club and trainers are very relaxed in the cause and have no pressure, it is said.
The fact that Tottenham Hotspur is interested in the BVB coach should not be an issue for Kovac and will therefore not influence the extension efforts. After a vacation, he will prepare BVB for the club World Cup and later talk about the expansion of his working paper.
